With the future often feeling uncertain, we are clinging to the stories of hope that make us so proud to work alongside our great community of members. We've witnessed businesses sharing tips for the best truck spots, lending out ingredients, and offering a helping hand to get a dish just right. Here are four short stories of our members giving back.

Food to the Frontlines

When Honest to Goodness approached us about their Cooks for a Cause fundraiser, we said: "You bring the ingredients and culinary talent, and the kitchen is all yours!" Donating our space to feed frontline workers at Swedish Medical Center Ballard was a no-brainer. The result? 200 meals in ONE DAY. The small but mighty team filled our space with the smell of fresh food ready to nourish the bodies — and souls — of these medical professionals.

From Our Community to Yours

For the 80 families living in the Ronald McDonald House, strict quarantine was essential to protect their children — but feeding picky eaters on take-out alone isn't easy. Two of our members, Amazing Lunches and Fork and Fin (Trident Foods), responded by providing kid-friendly, nourishing, ready-to-eat meals in partnership with the local non-profit Side-by-Side. All made in the safety of our kitchen and individually packaged. We've never had cuter customers!

Beyond the Table

This virus disproportionately affected our unhoused neighbors. With that in mind, Brothers & Co. provided and delivered 275 safe, tasty meals in partnership with the Chief Seattle Club and Northwest Harvest. We've seen the way a nourishing meal can make all the difference.

Food for Thought

As Seattle reflected and took action to support the racial justice movement, two members brought their skills to the table. Long-time member Off the Rez teamed up with Sweet Alchemy Ice Creamery and others to create a custom ice cream with all profits going to community non-profits fighting for racial justice. And newcomers Guava to the People built a business model that channels profits toward (QT)BIPOC organizations and community donations — all baked into the deliciousness of a Cuban pastelito.

When we show prospective members around, we always mention they're not just joining a space, but a warm, collaborative community. These stories prove the SCK family extends far beyond the kitchen walls. And if a big idea comes to your mind, we are all ears.
